JOSEPH MAWLE – ACTOR


Joseph first came to national recognition through the BBC drama Soundproof, which won a Best Director BAFTA in 2007. His subsequent film, TV and theatre work has been equally striking and includes the critically acclaimed Clapham Junction, The Street, Freefall and The Red Riding Trilogy. In 2008, he played Jesus in The Passion for HBO and Judas at The Almeida Theatre in The Last Days Of Judas Iscariot, for which he was nominated as Best Newcomer in the Evening Standard Theatre Awards.

2010 was a busy year for Joseph. He was in two acclaimed feature films: Heartless, with Timothy Spall and Jim Sturgess; and Made in Dagenham, starring Sally Hawkins. He appeared in a number of television dramas, including Dive and Five Daughters for BBC TV, and played Alvarr in an episode of the BBC's popular Merlin series. He was also part of an all star international cast in Poirot on ITV, tackling Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express. In 2011, Joseph appeared in BBC TV's production of D. H. Lawrence’s Women In Love, with Rosamund Pike; in the feature film The Awakening; and in HBO’s fantasy series Game of Thrones.

In 2012, Joseph has appeared in BBC TV's Birdsong, based on Sebastian Faulks’s acclaimed novel and also appears in feature films The Cold Light of Day, starring Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver; Shell, alongside Chloe Pirrie and Kate Dickie; and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, with Alan Tudyk, Dominic Cooper and Rufus Sewell.
